Construction continues!

Construction on our parish day school, the Ann Arbor Orthodox Christian Academy, continues this week. The walls are up! The roof is up! The Lord has blessed us to get this far, and we are thankful for all your support! But now it is time to strengthen our foundation of support. You can’t build a building without a strong foundation. That is true physically (we are using cement for the school, so that part is done), and that is true financially. As of 2/15/21 we have $935 in monthly recurring donations supporting the school. This is great! This is the beginning of a good foundation – thank God! Our monthly mortgage payment on the school will be about $1500 and we need to get our recurring donations to this point ASAP. That’s 57 more people at $10 per month. If every adult member of our parish (about 150 folks) can donate $10 per month we are more than done! This is a parish-wide project – let’s all join in and make it happen as a parish family! The school is the jumping off point to the new church – help us build this step to get quickly to the next!

IF YOU ARE NOT IN A POSITION TO MAKE A DONATION PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING YOUR TIME OR TALENT AS A VOLUNTEER BY SENDING AN EMAIL: info@stvladimiraami.org

Every member of our Board of Directors has established a monthly recurring donation, as have many of our parishioners and some folks from outside the parish. JOIN US! $10/month. $120/year. Just about $2/week. Visit this link to establish your monthly donation and assure that Orthodox education in Michigan has a firm foundation:

True, one may know man’s final goal: communion with God. And one may describe the path to it: faith, and walking in the commandments, with the aid of divine grace. One need only say in addition: here is the path-start walking!

We need two or three people to help make sure we have all the propane (and kerosene) we need every Sunday morning to warm the winter worship space sufficiently. This team works under the leadership of Dmitri Knysh, our parish council member. Please email info@stvladimiraami.org if you can help make sure that we never run out of propane and kerosene on a Sunday, and that people are warm and toasty in the winter worship space!

We need everyone to invest sweat equity into our parish life! If you are not excited about propane and kerosene do not despair! Click on the link below to learn about the many opportunities we have for you to invest in your parish!

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers

When going to the Holy Mysteries, go with simplicity of heart, in full faith that you will receive the Lord within yourself, and with the proper reverence towards this. What your state of mind should be after this, leave it to the Lord Himself. Many desire ahead of time to receive this or that from Holy Communion, and then, not seeing what they wanted, they are troubled, and even their faith in the power of the Mystery is shaken. The fault lies not with the Mystery, but with superficial assumptions. Do not promise yourself anything. Leave everything to the Lord, asking a single mercy from Him — to strengthen you in every kind of good so that you will be acceptable to Him. The fruit of Communion most often has a taste of sweet peace in the heart; sometimes it brings enlightenment to thought and inspiration to one’s devotion to the Lord; sometimes almost nothing is apparent, but afterward in one’s affairs there is a noted a great strength and steadfastness in the diligence one has promised.

Scripture Reading for the Coming Week
7/2/21, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

"This is the cause of all evils: the ignorance of the Scriptures. We go into battle without arms, and how ought we to come off safe?" -St. John Chrysostom, Homily IX on Colossians.

In order to help increase the general knowledge of scripture in our parish family we present here for your edification the scripture readings for the coming week. At least one Gospel Reading and one Epistle reading are assigned for each day of the year (although during Great Lent the readings are from the Old Testament). Hearing or reading only those readings appointed for Sunday merely scratches the surface of the great spiritual wealth that the scriptures provide us. Some of the readings are easily understandable – others are less so. As Orthodox Christians we do not make private interpretation of scripture, but rather consult the fathers of the Church for their explanations to aid us in our understanding. Those wishing to have access to such explanations are asked to contact Fr. Gregory or inquire in the kiosk for further reading in this regard. Bibles may also be acquired in the kiosk.

Monday: James 2:14-26 & Mark 10:46-52
Tuesday: James 3:1-10 & Mark 11:11-23
Wednesday: James 3:11-4:6 & Mark 11:22-26
Thursday: James 4:7-5:9 & Mark 11:27-33
Friday: I Peter 1:1-2,10-12,2:6-10 & Mark 12:1-12
Saturday: I Thessalonians 5:14-23 & Luke 17:3-10

Please find below several very nice articles on how to read the scripture from an Orthodox point of view.
