Scripture Reading for the Coming Week
25/12/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

"This is the cause of all evils: the ignorance of the Scriptures. We go into battle without arms, and how ought we to come off safe?" -St. John Chrysostom, Homily IX on Colossians.

In order to help increase the general knowledge of scripture in our parish family we present here for your edification the scripture readings for the coming week. At least one Gospel Reading and one Epistle reading are assigned for each day of the year (although during Great Lent the readings are from the Old Testament). Hearing or reading only those readings appointed for Sunday merely scratches the surface of the great spiritual wealth that the scriptures provide us. Some of the readings are easily understandable – others are less so. As Orthodox Christians we do not make private interpretation of scripture, but rather consult the fathers of the Church for their explanations to aid us in our understanding. Those wishing to have access to such explanations are asked to contact Fr. Gregory or inquire in the kiosk for further reading in this regard. Bibles may also be acquired in the kiosk.

Monday: Hebrews 3:5-11, 17-19 & Mark 8:11-21
Tuesday: Hebrews 4:1-13 & Mark 8:22-26
Wednesday: Hebrews 5:11-6:8 & Mark 8:30-34
Thursday: Hebrews 7:1-6 & Mark 9:10-16
Friday: Hebrews 7:18-25 & Mark 9:33-41
Saturday: Galatians 3:8-12 & Luke 13:18-29

Ïîíåäåëüíèê: Åâð. 3:5-11, 17-19 è îò Ìàðêà 8:11-21
Âòîðíèê: Åâð. 4:1-13 è îò Ìàðêà 8:22-26

Congratulations to those Celebrating Nativity Today
25/12/22, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We congratulate all our parish friends and family who are celebrating the Incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ today. Although we will not celebrate for 13 days as a parish we understand that most of our society is celebrating today - and whether you celebrate today or in 13 days it is still remarkable and noteworthy that more than 2000 years after the birth of the Savior the world still pauses to note His Incarnation on this day. May this be the year that the hymn of the angels heard all those centuries ago over Bethlehem be actualized in our world: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, goodwill and peace.”

Confession & Communion at St. Vladimir’s + Rule to Prepare for Communion

Posted by Fr. Gregory

Confession and Communion are the two sacraments we most often partake of as Orthodox Christians and thus it behooves us to learn about these, how to prepare for these, and how to best take advantage of the Grace that our Lord freely gives us in these sacraments. At St. Vladimir’s we have created a special web site for this purpose with much information in this regard. Please find the web site listed below and please contact Fr. Gregory with questions!

Nativity Lent Lecture Series – NEW THIS YEAR!
22/12/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Every Sunday this Nativity Lent we will have a lecture on the Divine Liturgy. As a parish family it is very important that we understand the Divine Liturgy to the greatest extent we are able to, as this is our main act of corporate worship as a parish family. The Liturgy is the work of the people. We PARTICIPATE in the Divine Liturgy – we are not bystanders or spectators. We encourage everyone to read “On the Divine Liturgy” by Gogol during this Lenten period. Copies are available in the kiosk in English. We are working on acquiring copies in Russian as well. In the mean time, you can find the book on-line in Russian here:
