Help with GLLS
16/11/21, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

It is true that we have not even started the Nativity Lent yet (begins November 15/28 annually), but it is time to start thinking about the Great Lenten Lecture Series! If you would like to help plan this annual event (a spiritual lecture after each Sunday Liturgy of Great Lent), or you would like to volunteer as a speaker, please contact Fr. Gregory. We will try to bring in at least one nationally known speaker, as we have in the past, so if you have ideas in that regard please share too. Yes we have some time. But if we get started early well have a better product for our parish family and provide them more spiritual growth during Great Lent than if we rush at the end. Please contact Fr. Gregory today to help!

This coming weekend we also have our monthly All-English cycle of services! This is a GREAT opportunity to introduce friends and loved ones to the beauty, depth, and theological truth of our Divine Services. But we need to join our friends at these services not just send them there. BE A MISSIONARY TODAY! Invite a friend or loved one to the All-English cycle Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday at 8:00 a.m.

If you cannot come to the Evening Services or Liturgy please try to join us on one of our live streams:

Scripture Reading for the Coming Week
14/11/21, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

"This is the cause of all evils: the ignorance of the Scriptures. We go into battle without arms, and how ought we to come off safe?" -St. John Chrysostom, Homily IX on Colossians.

In order to help increase the general knowledge of scripture in our parish family we present here for your edification the scripture readings for the coming week. At least one Gospel Reading and one Epistle reading are assigned for each day of the year (although during Great Lent the readings are from the Old Testament). Hearing or reading only those readings appointed for Sunday merely scratches the surface of the great spiritual wealth that the scriptures provide us. Some of the readings are easily understandable others are less so. As Orthodox Christians we do not make private interpretation of scripture, but rather consult the fathers of the Church for their explanations to aid us in our understanding. Those wishing to have access to such explanations are asked to contact Fr. Gregory or inquire in the kiosk for further reading in this regard. Bibles may also be acquired in the kiosk.

Monday: Colossians 2:13-20 & Luke 11:29-33
Tuesday: Colossians 2:20-3:3 & Luke 11:34-41
Wednesday: Colossians 3:17-4:1 & Luke 11:42-46
Thursday: Colossians 4:2-9 & Luke 11:47-12:1
Friday: Colossians 4:10-18 & Luke 12:2-12
Saturday: II Corinthians 5:1-10 & Luke 9:1-6

Please find below several very nice articles on how to read the scripture from an Orthodox point of view.

Confession & Communion at St. Vladimirs + Rule to Prepare for Communion

Posted by Fr. Gregory

Confession and Communion are the two sacraments we most often partake of as Orthodox Christians and thus it behooves us to learn about these, how to prepare for these, and how to best take advantage of the Grace that our Lord freely gives us in these sacraments. At St. Vladimirs we have created a special web site for this purpose with much information in this regard. Please find the web site listed below and please contact Fr. Gregory with questions!
