Confess Early – but not Often – for Pascha
14/4/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Those who confess beginning on Friday, April 15 and any time during Holy Week may partake of Divine Communion during any of the Holy Week & Bright Week Divine Liturgies if they have read their pre-Communion rule. Please plan to come to Confession early in Holy Week so that your Confession will not be rushed due to long lines of others waiting for Confession. ONCE YOU HAVE CONFESSED YOU SHOULD NOT CONFESS AGAIN UNLESS YOU FALL INTO A VERY, VERY, VERY SERIOUS SIN. In other words, if you come for a second confession during this time please have a police report to present to the priest explaining your sin. There are MANY who need to confess this week - literally hundreds. Please be merciful to your priests and only confess one time unless there is an extraordinarily serious need to confess a second time.

Lazarus Saturday - All the Details
13/4/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Lazarus Saturday is the first day of Holy Week. This year the date is April 16. Each year this is a very full day for us - this year being no exception! Please note:

1. CHURCH SCHOOL GENERAL CONFESSION & COMMUNION: all young people of the parish are strongly encouraged to attend the Matins service on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and to confess during or after the service. The service is short - do not come late! Parents - you will have to drive. Please get this on your child's schedule now.

2. CHURCH SCHOOL IS NOT HELD AT 5:00 P.M. ON LAZARUS SATURDAY: Church School IS the Divine Liturgy and the partaking of Holy Communion on this day, as well as participating in the arranging of Palms and Pussy Willows after the Divine Liturgy. THERE IS NO CHURCH SCHOOL AT 5:00 P.M. THIS DAY!

3. VIGIL FOR PALM SUNDAY IS AT 6:00 P.M.: Please plan to join us for one of the great feasts of the Church – the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem where He is welcomed as King and God. This is the outward height of the Lord’s earthly Liturgy. We want to be with Him on this day. We do that by being present at the Divine Services where we are then mystically present with the Lord on the feast.

Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
13/4/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

Join us this Sunday after the Divine Liturgy for a bell ringing rehearsal/workshop with our Head Bell Ringer John Hill. All are welcome! With Pascha coming up we need to be ready, and that readiness will carry us forward to ringing the bells at every Divine Service!

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers
11/4/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

“The law of God is in his heart, and his steps shall not be tripped” (Ps. 36:31). When a man places the Law of God and the holy commandments of God in his heart, so to speak, and loves them, then he comes to hate sin; he becomes inflamed with a desire for life in the Lord, and he restrains himself from every sin.

Scripture Reading for the Coming Week
10/4/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

"This is the cause of all evils: the ignorance of the Scriptures. We go into battle without arms, and how ought we to come off safe?" -St. John Chrysostom, Homily IX on Colossians.

In order to help increase the general knowledge of scripture in our parish family we present here for your edification the scripture readings for the coming week. At least one Gospel Reading and one Epistle reading are assigned for each day of the year (although during Great Lent the readings are from the Old Testament). Hearing or reading only those readings appointed for Sunday merely scratches the surface of the great spiritual wealth that the scriptures provide us. Some of the readings are easily understandable – others are less so. As Orthodox Christians we do not make private interpretation of scripture, but rather consult the fathers of the Church for their explanations to aid us in our understanding. Those wishing to have access to such explanations are asked to contact Fr. Gregory or inquire in the kiosk for further reading in this regard. Bibles may also be acquired in the kiosk.

Monday: Isaiah 48:17-49:4, Genesis 27:1-41, Proverbs 19:16-25
Tuesday: Isaiah 49:6-10, Genesis 31:3-16, Proverbs 21:3-21
