There are many people in the parish already donating time, talent, and treasure to our parish school. And we are VERY THANKFUL for you all! We invite those who are not doing so to yet visit our school webs site and learn how you can help. Who can help? EVERYONE! Unless you have neither time, nor talent, nor treasure. But there is NO HUMAN that does not have at least one of those things. So we can all help! Please visit the link below to find out how:

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers

All of life passes in vanity. The mind moves amid vain thoughts and temptations. Gradually, it gets used to remembering God, so that amid vanities and troubles, when not thinking, it will suddenly think [of Him], and when not remembering, will suddenly remember Him, just as long as it keeps going without stopping. As long as it is striving forward – do not fear, your little ship is whole, and under the shadow of the Cross it will finish sailing across the sea of life. It is whole and you need not fear what storms may arise. In normal sailing, you cannot avoid inclement weather, and even more so in the path of life. But the misfortunes and storms of life are not frightening for those traveling under the protection of the saving prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner. They are not frightening, only do not fall into despondency, for despondency gives birth to despair, and despair is already a mortal sin.

Scripture Reading for the Coming Week
20/3/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

"This is the cause of all evils: the ignorance of the Scriptures. We go into battle without arms, and how ought we to come off safe?" -St. John Chrysostom, Homily IX on Colossians.

In order to help increase the general knowledge of scripture in our parish family we present here for your edification the scripture readings for the coming week. At least one Gospel Reading and one Epistle reading are assigned for each day of the year (although during Great Lent the readings are from the Old Testament). Hearing or reading only those readings appointed for Sunday merely scratches the surface of the great spiritual wealth that the scriptures provide us. Some of the readings are easily understandable – others are less so. As Orthodox Christians we do not make private interpretation of scripture, but rather consult the fathers of the Church for their explanations to aid us in our understanding. Those wishing to have access to such explanations are asked to contact Fr. Gregory or inquire in the kiosk for further reading in this regard. Bibles may also be acquired in the kiosk.

Monday: Isaiah 8:13-9:7, Genesis 6:9-22, Proverbs 8:1-21
Tuesday: Isaiah 9:9-10:4, Genesis 7:1-5, Proverbs 8:32-9:11
Wednesday: Isaiah 10:12-20, Genesis 7:6-9, Proverbs 9:12-18
Thursday: Isaiah 11:10-12:2, Genesis 7:11-8:3, Proverbs 10:1-22
Friday: Isaiah 13:2-13, Genesis 8:4-21, Proverbs 10:31-11:12
Saturday: Hebrews 10:32-38 & Mark 2:14-17

Please find below several very nice articles on how to read the scripture from an Orthodox point of view.

Confession & Communion at St. Vladimir’s + Rule to Prepare for Communion

Posted by Fr. Gregory

Confession and Communion are the two sacraments we most often partake of as Orthodox Christians and thus it behooves us to learn about these, how to prepare for these, and how to best take advantage of the Grace that our Lord freely gives us in these sacraments. At St. Vladimir’s we have created a special web site for this purpose with much information in this regard. Please find the web site listed below and please contact Fr. Gregory with questions!

You Are a Missionary

The Lord has entrusted us with the Pearl of Great Price – the Orthodox Faith. Are we hiding this? Are we keeping it for ourselves? Or are we following the example of the Apostles and working actively to spread our saving faith? If you had the cure for a bodily disease like cancer you would never keep that to yourself – it is obvious that this would be unethical and sinful. But we have the cure for DEATH! And sadly – we mostly keep it to ourselves. And that is even more unethical and sinful that hiding the cure for any bodily disease. Share your faith. Invite a friend, loved one, or neighbor to the Divine Services this coming weekend – and assure them that you will be there to welcome them to St. Vladimir’s. If we would all do this – if we would make just a minimal effort to invite others – we would need to seriously rethink the size of the new church we plan to build because it would be way TOO SMALL. Let’s do that. Let’s make all our plans useless because there are just too many people in our parish family! Success only comes before work in the dictionary – let us get to work spreading our Orthodox Faith by simply inviting others to join us at St. Vladimir’s!

The Liturgical Fast for those communing begins after breakfast. In other words, you may eat breakfast, but eat or drink nothing further after that. Parents should use their best judgment regarding their children, as always. Those who confessed on the weekend prior to the Wednesday Presanctified need not confess again on/before Wednesday.
