All Parish Pascha Party is May 15
5/3/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Fr. Gregory, Elizabeth, Misha, Masha, and Natasha invite everyone to join us for our Pascha party on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at our house in Saline. The rain date is Monday, May 16 2022. Why do we need a rain date? Because we will hold the party outside! We’ll have a bon fire, lots of non-Lenten food, drinks, and hopefully a lot of fun! Don’t know where we live? Please send a note to info@stvladimiraami.org now (not on May 15 when you leave your house!) and we’ll share details with you. Everyone is welcome! Come celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord with our whole parish family in the best post-pandemic style!

Ice Cream Ice Skate is Now Bake Sale for Refugees in Ukraine
4/3/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

On Saturday, March 5 our Church School will not hold choir practice or classes, but rather, beginning at 4:30 p.m. all Church School children will participate in baking lenten sweets that will be for sale during our parish meal on Sunday, March 6. Others who participate in Youth Group, but not Church School, are welcome to join us! All proceeds from the Bake Sale go to Metropolitan Onuphry to support refugees and others suffering from the war in Ukraine. Donations in this regard will be collected at the cross on this Sunday, as well as accepted at the Bake Sale. After the Bake Sale we will all go out for our last ice cream before Great Lent. Meet us at Washtenaw Dairy about 3:30 p.m.

Please be generous in helping those who are in great need! If you cannot be present, but you would like to make a donation, please contact our Treasurer, Mikhail Fisenkov, at treasurer@stvladimiraami.org

4/3/22, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Each first Sunday of the month we will have Parish Council members ready to help you during the parish meal. Help you by answering questions you may have about why you should support your parish. Help you by answering questions about how you can support your parish. Help you by assisting you in setting up a recurring donation to support St. Vladimir’s if you would like to do so. No one will attack you. :) But if you would like help, or you have questions, we are setting aside this time specifically for this purpose.

St. Ksenia Sisterhood Calls all to Prayer for Peace in Ukraine
3/3/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

It is the usual practice of our St. Ksenia Sisterhood for the sisters to read the Psalter during Great Lent on behalf of the ill, suffering, and reposed in our parish. This year, with the war in Ukraine, the Sisterhood is broadening its practice and calling all to join them in prayer, for the ill, suffering, and reposed as usual, but also for peace in Ukraine. Please take part in at least one of the calls for prayer below!

ONE – Archbishop Peter has asked that all the faithful of the Mid-American Diocese read this prayer daily and entreat St. Vladimir for peace.

TWO – Metropolitan Onuphry has asked that all the faithful in Ukraine read one chapter from the Gospel each day of Great Lent and make three prostrations before their icons asking for peace in Ukraine and the entire world. Certainly we are all welcome to join our brothers and sisters in Ukraine in this effort!

THREE – Our St. Ksenia Sisterhood offers all the opportunity to join them the reading of the Psalter this Great Lent. Please begin anytime you can – even today. Whenever you start, begin with the first Kathisma of the Psalter and read a Kathisma daily. Or even a “Glory” (1/3 of a Kathisma) daily. But with prayer (see below).

DETAILS: HOW TO READ THE PSALTER AT HOME

Lenten Recipes!
3/3/22, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We are often asked about Lenten recipes. One can't really make it through any fasting period on only peanut butter and jelly! We present here some recipes that you may find helpful to diversity your diet during the upcoming lent. Remember: anything that is vegan fits the fast, and since vegan diets have become popular lately, you can search for these on the Internet. We can't comment on the quality of the recipes you'll find when you make such a search, but the recipes below are GOOD!

Members – How to Support Your Parish
3/3/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We are thankful to all our 120+ members from 2021! We encourage those who have not joined the parish to do so for this 2022 year! By joining St. Vladimir's you show your visible support of the parish which nourishes you and your family spiritually. We all hope the parish will be there when we need it (for marriages, funerals, baptisms, etc.). By joining the parish we support it both spiritually and financially and ensure it is there for us in our time of need, whether that be every day or a few times per year.

Spiritual Support: this is generally being present for regular Divine Services, participating in Mathew 25 and other charitable efforts, and otherwise doing those things that are good for YOUR salvation that the parish facilitates on your behalf.

Financial Support: this is much more than paying our small membership dues. This is about making support of your parish part of your family budget. Learn more at the link below – and please ask questions! We know this is not easy – but we also know that “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Luke 12:34). We know you join St. Vladimir’s because your heart is with God’s Church – and we know the peace you feel when you align your treasure with your heart according to the Gospel.

Members – Pick Your Duty
2/3/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

It is understood and expected that each member of our parish would have at least one duty that they participate in IN ADDITION to attending the Divine Services. This ranges from baking prosphora, to picking sticks in the cemetery, to shoveling snow, and more! If we all do our little part we will equitably care for the parish the Lord has entrusted to us, and we will not kill off those who do these things if no one else does. It is wise for us to preserve the leadership of our parish, but it is also moral for each parish member to do their part. So please pitch in, and if you have not chosen your duty yet please contact our parish Secretary, Marina Edwards. If she doesn’t hear from you she will reach out to you soon. You can email her at info@stvladimiraami.org or see her in church. Thank you diligently following through on this program. More involvement in the parish promotes persistence in being part of the parish family – and it keeps a few people from doing everything. With God’s help we will make our metaphor of “family” even more real in our parish by working together for God’s glory in this way!

Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
2/3/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.
