Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers
11/3/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Imagine that someone, while standing before a king and conversing with him, at the summons of a servant like unto himself leaves the king and begins to converse with that servant; such also is he who engages in conversation and gives himself over to distraction during the divine service.

Great Lent has Begun
10/3/19, 11:59 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We congratulate all our parish family on the beginning of the Holy and Great Lent! This is a special time of year for all of us when we put away the cares of this world to the greatest extent possible and in a much more focused way examine our consciences, forgive each other, and seek forgiveness from our merciful Lord. Yesterday the Holy Church commemorated the casting out of Adam from Paradise. In today's Divine Services the first scripture reading is the beginning of Genesis today is a new beginning for us all. May God grant us all a spiritually fruitful lent as we prepare ourselves for the feast of feasts the Glorious Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Please find here the prayer of St. Ephraim. This prayer is said at every weekday Divine Service of Great Lent and it is common practice to include this prayer in our daily home prayers as well:

First Week of Great Lent Make Your Plans Now
8/3/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

The schedule of services for the first week can be found at this link:

We know that wont happen, and it probably isnt realistic, but that should be our goal this is what we should strive for. In fact, the canons of the Holy Church mandate that even if the services are not held in the parish church the clergy should read the services at home because these services are SO IMPORTANT for our spiritual lives.

All services of the first week will be streamed live, so even if you cant join us in person you can join us in prayer. Our live stream, which is on only during the Divine Services, can always be found at this link:

Want to get a peek at the rest of Great Lent? Here is the full schedule please pay special attention to Holy Week (the week before Pascha) when again EVERYONE SHOULD ATTEND EVERY SERVICE:

We understand that this is just like the First Week not truly possible for most. But if we dont know what we should strive for we will never get there. May the Merciful Lord grant that we do our best every year to participate to the greatest extent possible in the Great Lenten Divine Services especially the First Week and Holy Week!

New St. Vladimirs Church
6/3/19, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

At Sunday's annual parish assembly we presented information about the new St. Vladimir Church and how we, as a parish, can pay for this. The key number to remember is $4.60 per day. If each of us can find that money we can start construction in 24 months and be debt free in our new building in 43 months. Less than 4 years! But some folks dont have that money that is their financial reality. That is OK! We are asking ALL our parishioners to challenge and stretch themselves and then to make a pledge based on what they can do. If we all pitch in as the Lord has blessed us we will make it happen! Those who can give less will be covered by those who can give more.

We are in the quiet phase of our fund raising now. We have to build the school first! But some folks want to give to the church project now and we welcome that.

Annual Meeting Thank You!
5/3/19, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Thank you to all who made Sunday's annual parish assembly such a huge success! First I am quite certain we will never return to the practice of reading reports to the parish at the meeting. Sunday we asked everyone to read the reports ahead of time and just ask questions. This significantly shortened the meeting! Second thank you to all who served in parish offices last year. This years parish office holders are:

Starosta: Jack (Alexey) Mitchell Term Runs through 2020
Treasurer: Mikhail Fisenkov*
Secretary: Alexandre Alexandrov
Parish Council Trustees: Marina Edwards, Dmitri Knysh, Igor Obertas, Natalia Veniaminova
Auditing Committee: Deacon Vladimir Pyrozhenko, Reader Colin Bower, Michael Marsh
Russia with Love Representative: Ken (Peter) Doll
Editing Committee: Katherine Bower, Natalia Kondrashova

I look forward to working closely with all these outstanding volunteers for the good of our parish family!

Fr. Gregory

*Mikhail could not join us for the annual meeting, but with Archbishop Peters blessing he will continue in this position until we can hold a special meeting to elect him properly. Likely this meeting will take place after Pascha.

Virtues are formed by prayer. Prayer preserves temperance. Prayer suppresses anger. Prayer prevents emotions of pride and envy. Prayer draws into the soul the Holy Spirit, and raises man to Heaven.
