English Liturgies and Work Days this Fall & Winter - Next is this Saturday!
1/1/15, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
Each month we serve one daily cycle of Divine Services in English on a Friday evening and Saturday morning. Following Liturgy – the end of that cycle of services – we hold our monthly parish work day/clean up. We find that caring for the candle stands, dusting the iconostasis, cleaning the icons hung on the walls, polishing the benches, and other sort of jobs that are not taken care of by those who clean the church weekly are best taken care of on a regular basis – not waiting until they become a major job due to neglect. Please plan to join us for English Divine Services on the following dates and for the clean up/work day on the Saturdays listed below following the Divine Liturgy. English Divine Services are scheduled for:

Friday, September: 19 6:00 p.m. & Saturday, September 20: 8:00 a.m.
Friday, October: 24 6:00 p.m. & Saturday, October 25: 8:00 a.m.
Friday, November 7: 6:00 p.m. & Saturday, November 8: 8:00 a.m.
Friday, December 5: 6:00 p.m. & Saturday, December 6: 8:00 a.m.
Friday, January 2: 6:00 p.m. & Saturday, January 3: 8:00 a.m.

More soon to be scheduled!

Nativity Lent began November 28
31/12/14, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
PLEASE NOTE: This Lenten period is not suspended for New Year's Eve celebrations. We realize our parishioners will celebrate the New Year and this is perfectly fine in the context of our thankfulness to God for His blessings upon us in the past year and the blessings we seek from Him in the coming year. But New Year's celebrations should be undertaken with moderation - not excess. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions in this regard.

===

We congratulate all our parish family with the beginning of the yearly Lenten period preceding the feast of our Lord’s Nativity! This Lenten period begins November 28 each year and runs until January 7 – the feast of our Lord’s Nativity. This Lenten period is much less stringent than Great Lent. During this fast, as usual, we abstain from meat and dairy products. But fish is allowed on many days. Please consult our parish schedule (linked below) for more details on the culinary aspects of fasting. Of course, the culinary fast is a tool to aid us spiritually to prepare for our Lord’s Nativity – it is not an end unto itself. If you have not fasted in the past please consult Fr. Gregory, Fr. Michael, or Fr. Joseph for practical advice on how to be successful in fasting. Fasting a very important way that we place ourselves in obedience to the Church, the Ark of our salvation, and extraordinarily helpful in our spiritual struggle to draw nearer to our Lord at this special time of year.

Marriage Retreat Moved to September
31/12/14, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
We have decided to combine the activities around the feast of Sts. Peter and Febronia in September with our marriage retreat. This will allow us to include an invited speaker and we are working now to secure a great speaker that will provide real value to our parish families. More to come soon in that regard – but no need to save the January date for a marriage retreat any longer. :)

Posted by Fr. Gregory
St. Vladimir's is pleased to announce that Sister Vassa of “Coffee with Sister Vassa” will visit St. Vladimir's January 1, 2015. The topic of Sister Vassa's presentation will be "Being Church in the Age of the Internet". You can learn more about Sister Vassa by visiting her Face Book page:

https://www.facebook.com/CoffeeWithSisterVassa

Or her You Tube Channel:

http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCH-FBwgf93rU-g8BH3xiuUQ

Please make plans to join us! The presentation will begin at 1:00 p.m. This should allow for a nice, moderate celebration of New Year's Eve for those who choose to celebrate, but still give ample time to be to St. Vladimir's on this civil holiday (when very few of our parishioners will have to work) to participate in the presentation and discussion. Spread the word! DON'T MISS IT!

St. John Kochurov Society Annual Appeal
27/12/14, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
Please find the annual appeal for the St. John Kochurov Society here:

http://www.stvladimiraami.org/pamphlets ... al2014.pdf

Our parish has had the largest number of members of this society since its inception in 2009. The society supports Youth, Missions, and Monasteries in the Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America. That is our diocese! :) Please help if you can. Even a small donation can make a big difference when it is added to many other small donations.

Please feel free to share this information with others – the more people we can get to be members of the St. John Society the more support we can provide for these worthy endeavors in our diocese!
