Posted by Fr. Gregory

Dear St. Vladimir’s Parishioners! We would like to urge you to consider whether making a donation to the parish before December 31, 2021 would be helpful for you as you consider your tax liability for the year 2021. Donations to St. Vladimir Church are deductible to the greatest extent allowable by law. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions in this regard. It is also very important that your address be up to date in our parish database. If you have moved this year please contact our parish Secretary, Marina Edwards (info@stvladimiraami.org), with your new address.

Links to “St. John of Shanghai: Homecoming” Movie = Homework for THIS SUNDAY
23/12/21, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

For various technical reasons we were unable to show the movie about St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco on Sunday, December 5. So we are sharing the links here and asking you to watch the movie before Sunday, December 26. On that day Fr. Gregory will give a presentation on his trip to Ukraine to participate in the events described in the documentary and share pictures from his trip. We’ll have time for questions and answers/discussion about the movie and Fr. Gregory’s presentation. Please plan to join us!

Beware Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

It has come to my attention that Deacon Methodius Chwastek, who at one time was a St. Vladimir's minor cleric (Subdeacon) and left our diocese without a blessing, then left the diocese he fled to without a blessing, then joined a schismatic Old Calendarist group, and then received false ordination by the false bishop of that group, has been attempting to interact with some of our parishioners.

First: we should pray intently for Deacon Methodius and his family, for they are in a very dangerous spiritual situation. Their souls are in danger. St. John Chrysostom equates schism with heresy, and notes that not even the blood of martyrdom washes away the sin of schism.

Second: in that Deacon Methodius has shown by his actions that he is in spiritual delusion we should neither seek his counsel nor pay any heed to it if he gives it.

Third: the diocesan Spiritual Court is presently dealing with Deacon Methodius' case and, baring repentance and return to the Church on his part, it is very likely that he will be defrocked as a Deacon (we do not in any way recognize his false priestly ordination, and thus there is no reason to even address that point) and be counted by the Church as a schismatic layman. It goes without saying that it is folly to seek or receive spiritual counsel from a layman who has left the Orthodox Church. Please contact me or Fr. Colin if you have questions, and again, please remember Deacon Methodius and his family in your prayers.

Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
22/12/21, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

For Adults: from the writings of Blessed Theophylact

For Youth: from the Antiochian Archdiocese (various age groups)

New Icon Given - Another Ordered
21/12/21, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Thank God, we have received a beautiful gift for our parish – a full size copy of the Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God. We will place this icon in a prominent place – above the icon of St. John of Shanghai & San Francisco. But we will need an icon to go above St. Xenia too – otherwise the balance of the iconography will be quite out of sorts. The perfect icon to bring us back to symmetry would be an icon of St. Job of Pochaev of the same size. THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE GIVEN WE HAVE COLLECTED MORE THAN 50% OF THE COST OF THE ICON! We have therefore ordered the icon – but we need to finish collecting the second half of the cost of the icon so we can pay the iconographer when he finishes in a few weeks. :)

We have decided to crowd fund this – so everyone can add their part and pay for the icon of St. Job together as a parish family. Please make a donation today – and if we all do this together we’ll get this paid for very quickly! -Fr. Gregory

Members – Pick Your Duty
21/12/21, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

It is understood and expected that each member of our parish would have at least one duty that they participate in IN ADDITION to attending the Divine Services. This ranges from baking prosphora, to picking sticks in the cemetery, to shoveling snow, and more! If we all do our little part we will equitably care for the parish the Lord has entrusted to us, and we will not kill off those who do these things if no one else does. It is wise for us to preserve the leadership of our parish, but it is also moral for each parish member to do their part. So please pitch in, and if you have not chosen your duty yet please contact our parish Secretary, Marina Edwards. If she doesn’t hear from you she will reach out to you soon. You can email her at info@stvladimiraami.org or see her in church. Thank you diligently following through on this program. More involvement in the parish promotes persistence in being part of the parish family – and it keeps a few people from doing everything. With God’s help we will make our metaphor of “family” even more real in our parish by working together for God’s glory in this way!
