How to Support St. Vladimir's
21/8/24, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

People often ask us how they can make donations to St. Vladimir’s other than by making a donation at church. We work continuously to make this as easy for our parish family and friends as we can and we appreciate your feedback in this regard. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF YOUR PARISH!

During this time of economic difficulty we need your support more than ever! We understand that your bills are higher now than in the past. But so are the parish bills. AND – we are being asked to help those who cannot pay their own bills because of the economic situation. Please establish a regular tithe in support of the parish which God has entrusted to us! You can do that, and investigate other means of supporting St. Vladimir's at this page:

Reading Group Forming to Prepare for Holy Week!
21/8/24, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

I (Fr. Gregory) recently finished listening to this book. I learned A LOT, and I have been a priest for almost 30 years. :) Having finished the book I am even more convinced that it is a very good idea for us to have a reading group using this book. BUT - it is not short. If we want to go at a reasonable pace (one chapter per week) we need to start in September if we want to finish before Holy Week 2025! Reading this book will make Holy Week MUCH more meaningful for you. That time passes by so quickly - we hardly have time to reflect on what is happening. Thus, I am suggesting we reflect BEFORE this happens this coming year so we are ready. Wednesdays 7:00 p.m. beginning September 4, 2024.

Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
21/8/24, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

Make Support of STV a Spiritual Question

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
(Matthew 6:21)

St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Church has always, throughout its 40+ year history, been well supported by its parishioners. This is something that we can be proud of and thankful for. However, this is also something that we often do not think very much about. We know that when we are in church on Sunday there will be some sort of collection, but we don’t usually think very much about this, either before the collection or afterwards. We see this as just a part of going to church. However, stewardship, how we use what God has given us, is something that we should consider and something that we should plan.

Quarterly Stewardship Education Information Communication

Posted by Fr. Gregory

At the Parish Council meeting on March 11, 2017 a Stewardship Education Team was appointed by the Parish Council consisting of Fr. Gregory, Jack (Alexey) Mitchel, and Leta (Ksenia) Nikulshina. The charge of this team is to provide our parish family with educational information about stewardship. In this regard, we intend to send out an email and post on our parish web site a quarterly communication in preparation for a quarterly parish finance report out.

Please find the quarterly communication at the link below. Please feel free to contact any of us, or any of the Parish Council members, with questions at any time. Or, if you prefer, use the second link below to ask a question or make a comment anonymously.

We thank you sincerely for your generous support of our parish! And we look forward to hearing from you at your convenience regarding this information.

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers

When you see life’s pleasures, beware that they might not distract you, for they conceal death’s snares. Likewise a fisherman casts not his hook to no purpose. As bait for his hook, the enemy uses the delusion of sensuality to arouse desire, that he might thereby catch men’s souls and subject them to himself. A soul which has been caught to serve the enemy’s will then serves as a snare for other souls, for it conceals the grief of sin with its apparent delight.

Scripture Reading for the Coming Week
18/8/24, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

"This is the cause of all evils: the ignorance of the Scriptures. We go into battle without arms, and how ought we to come off safe?" -St. John Chrysostom, Homily IX on Colossians.

In order to help increase the general knowledge of scripture in our parish family we present here for your edification the scripture readings for the coming week. At least one Gospel Reading and one Epistle reading are assigned for each day of the year (although during Great Lent the readings are from the Old Testament). Hearing or reading only those readings appointed for Sunday merely scratches the surface of the great spiritual wealth that the scriptures provide us. Some of the readings are easily understandable – others are less so. As Orthodox Christians we do not make private interpretation of scripture, but rather consult the fathers of the Church for their explanations to aid us in our understanding. Those wishing to have access to such explanations are asked to contact Fr. Gregory or inquire in the kiosk for further reading in this regard. Bibles may also be acquired in the kiosk.

Monday: I Corinthians 11:21-12:6 & Matthew 18:1-11
Tuesday: I Corinthians 12:12-26 & Matthew 18:18-22,19:1-2,13-15

Thursday: I Corinthians 14:6-19 & Matthew 20:17-28
Friday: I Corinthians 14:26-40 & Matthew 21:12-14,17-20
