Special Collection Zoe for Life with $1,000 Matching Grant 8/25/19
22/8/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

An anonymous donor has made a $1,000 Matching Grant available for a special collection for our Zoe for Life joint ministry with St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. This is for donations to St. Vladimir made from now until the end of the Liturgy on Sunday, August 25, 2019 and designated for Zoe for Life. We will hold a special collection on August 25 in support of this matching grant, but if you would like to make a donation before then please give your donation to our Treasurer, Mikhail Fisenkov or our Starosta, Jack Mitchell. We thank our anonymous donor and all who will give to help Zoe for Life, a pan-Orthodox effort that helps mothers to decide not to abort their children by providing them with material support they need for their child. If you would like to learn more about Zoe for Life please contact Fr. Gregory, Addie Lanterman, or Leta Nikulshina. Volunteers are always welcome and needed for this important ministry!

If you have questions please contact Fr. Gregory. Yes – this is only a few weeks ahead of the festival and those who are working hard on the festival should not feel that they need to help with this event. But those who are NOT working hard on the festival SHOULD feel that they need to help with this event – an event that is so important for our parish, deanery, and diocesan youth. Please pitch in – many hands make light work!

IOCC Kits this Dormition Fast
19/8/19, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

The Lenten period in preparation for the feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God begins August 14. It is our tradition to make IOCC School Kits (to help kids in countries that need to bring their own school supplies to school in order to attend school) during this Lenten period. We’ll do the same this year. On Sunday, August 18 we will have a special collection to support this effort. If you can’t make it that day please contact Marina Edwards to make your donation. On Saturday, August 24 we will make the school kits following the Divine Liturgy (starting about 10:30 a.m.). This is an important effort to get our KIDS involved in. They will be helping their peers in other countries to be educated. Please plan to join us in supporting this important effort!

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers

“But the pious confession of the believer is that, with a view to our salvation, . . . the Creator of all things incorporated with Himself a rational soul and a sensible body from the all-holy Mary, ever-virgin, by an undefiled conception, without conversion, and was made man in nature, but separate from wickedness: the same was perfect God, and the same was perfect man; the same was in nature at once perfect God and man.”

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers

“We cannot live in such a way that no one grieves or offends us, for the Apostle Luke writes: we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God (Acts 14:22), and bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ (Gal. 6:2). Let us therefore ask that we may bear sorrows with self-reproach and humility and not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good, and with the Prophet say: With them that hate pace I was peaceable (Ps. 119:6).”
