Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
15/6/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

Apocalypse Bible Study Starts June 22
14/6/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Please mark you calendars! Our Apocalypse Bible Study starts with a kickoff meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22 AT STV. If you are interested or if you have questions please send an email to info@stvladimiraami.org. The books by Fr. Laurence Farley are in at the kiosk. Please buy yours soon! Fr. Gregory loaned his book to someone and it never made it back, so if you have his copy please do give it back to him (since all his notes are in it). If that doesn’t happen, well, we’ll start from scratch! We’ll also use Archbishop Averky’s book on the Apocalypse, but it is expensive, so texts will be shared at the meetings as needed. If you are coming to the meeting and could bring some refreshments please use the “info” mail above to volunteer.

BIG Thank You! A2OCA Picnic!
14/6/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

On Sunday, June 12, the great feast of Pentecost, following the Kneeling Vespers we held a picnic in support of our parish school, Ann Arbor Orthodox Classical Academy. What a great fund raiser! And it was a great fun raiser too! We sold 150 of the 650 2x4s that we will need to finish the inside of our school, and 112 of the 425 dry wall sheet we will need. AWESOME! What a great start! Didn’t get a chance to buy a board or a sheet of drywall? Please visit the A2OCA Network for Good page and by as many 2x4s as you like at $5 each and as many dry wall sheets as you like at $10 each:

SUPPORT YOUR PARISH SCHOOL!

We ask only that you note what you are buying so we can keep track of how many boards are still left to go! You could also use Zelle if that is easier, with “treasurer@stvladimiraami.org” as the entity to transfer to. Let’s finish building our school - TOGETHER!

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers
13/6/22, 06:00 AM

Everyone needs the fire of temptations in order to be tried and instructed in patience. One must look at things with the point of view that Divine Providence is caring for our salvation: one person requires more, another requires less trials for patience and instruction, and for another, the time has not yet come.

Scripture Reading for the Coming Week
12/6/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

"This is the cause of all evils: the ignorance of the Scriptures. We go into battle without arms, and how ought we to come off safe?" -St. John Chrysostom, Homily IX on Colossians.

In order to help increase the general knowledge of scripture in our parish family we present here for your edification the scripture readings for the coming week. At least one Gospel Reading and one Epistle reading are assigned for each day of the year (although during Great Lent the readings are from the Old Testament). Hearing or reading only those readings appointed for Sunday merely scratches the surface of the great spiritual wealth that the scriptures provide us. Some of the readings are easily understandable – others are less so. As Orthodox Christians we do not make private interpretation of scripture, but rather consult the fathers of the Church for their explanations to aid us in our understanding. Those wishing to have access to such explanations are asked to contact Fr. Gregory or inquire in the kiosk for further reading in this regard. Bibles may also be acquired in the kiosk.

Monday: Ephesians 5:9-19 & Matthew 18:10-20
Tuesday: Romans 1:1-7,13-17 & Matthew 4:25-5:12
Wednesday: Romans 1:18-27 & Matthew 5:20-26
Thursday: Romans 1:28-2:9 & Matthew 5:27-32
Friday: Romans 2:14-29 & Matthew 5:33-41
Saturday: Romans 1:7-12 & Matthew 5:42-48

Posted by Fr. Gregory

Confession and Communion are the two sacraments we most often partake of as Orthodox Christians and thus it behooves us to learn about these, how to prepare for these, and how to best take advantage of the Grace that our Lord freely gives us in these sacraments. At St. Vladimir’s we have created a special web site for this purpose with much information in this regard. Please find the web site listed below and please contact Fr. Gregory with questions!
