Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers

The leaders of any given evil heresy also attempt to interpret their writings, but their purpose is to harm their followers and deny that truth which is in accordance with piety, using the words of the Spirit against the Spirit. The words of the gospel of grace are lofty and suitable for mature ears and minds, but these words too our God-bearing Fathers softened in their own mouths, making them appropriate for those of us who are less than perfect, just as mothers devoted to their children chew solid food and render it serviceable and easy to take for babies still at the breast. The moisture in their mothers mouth is nourishment for the children, and the thoughts in the hearts of our God-bearing Fathers are suitable food for souls that listen and obey. The mouths of evil, disreputable men, however, are full of deadly poison which, when mixed with the words of life, makes even them lethal for careless listeners.

Confession & Communion Gudelines

A soft reminder that it is the tradition of the Church that we partake of the sacrament of Confession before we partake of Holy Communion. Those who live less than 30 minutes from the parish, are not very old, very sick, or very young should (and by "should" we mean must) confess at Vigil the evening before partaking of Holy Communion. We notice that some folks who DO live more than 30 minutes away are at Vigil regularly but dont go to confession then, but rather the morning of the Liturgy. That is just silly! :) Everyone who is at Vigil and plans to partake the next day should confess no matter where they live. Confession before Liturgy is reserved for those who live far away, those who are very old, very sick, or very young. But if the young, the old, and the sick are at Vigil they should not wait until the next morning! Please contact Fr. Gregory or Fr. Moses with questions, or visit our web page dedicated to this topic, which has LOTS of resources:

Fr. Gregory is available to bring Holy Communion to the sick, bless homes and apartments (or dorm rooms), or to provide spiritual support to any and all of our parish family whenever there is a need. Please do not hesitate to contact him! Too often those in need suffer in silence because they do not want to bother the priest. Fr. Gregory is here to serve our parish family just as Christ came to minister so too is this the calling of the parish priest. You can reach Fr. Gregory by phone or SMS at 734-649-5746 or via email at ogrisha@stvladimiraami.org. If from one burning lamp someone lights another, then another from that one, and so on in succession, he has light continuously. In the same way, through the Apostles ordaining their successors, and these successors ordaining others, and so on, the grace of the Holy Spirit is handed down through all generations and enlightens all who obey their shepherds and teachers.

10% of Festival Proceeds go to Charity
31/5/19, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We ask each of our parishioners to make a tithe to the parish.

Some thoughts on tithing from an Orthodox point of view can be found here and may be helpful:

https://blogs.ancientfaith.com/roadsfromemmaus/2015/10/27/6-reasons-why-tithing-is-good-for-an-orthodox-parish/

You can find more in this article, which is on our parish web site.

It only makes sense if we ask our parishioners to tithe that we would arrange for 10% of our festival proceeds would go to charities other than St. Vladimir's (10% of our regular collections go to the diocese by the way). So - when you volunteer for the festival we want you to know that you are supporting St. Vladimir's - but other charitable organizations as well!
