Monday First Things: Teachings of the Holy Fathers

“Prayer in church is important. The best thoughts and feelings come in church, yes, and the enemy attacks more violently in church, but with the sign of the Cross and the Jesus Prayer, you drive him away. It is good to stand in some dark corner in church and to pray to God. “Let us lift up our hearts!” the priest exclaims, but our mind often creeps along the ground, thinking about indecent things. Fight against this.”

Weekly Educational Offering
13/6/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

For Adults: an explanation of this coming Sunday's Gospel reading from Blessed Theophylact:

You need not be despondent. Let those be despondent who do not believe in God. For them sorrow is burdensome, of course, because besides earthly enjoyment they have nothing. But believers must not be despondent, for through sorrows they receive the right of sonship, without which is impossible to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

“The Lord did not come to make a display. He came to heal and to teach suffering men. For one who wanted to make a display the thing would have been just to appear and dazzle the beholders. But for Him Who came to heal and to teach the way was not merely to dwell here, but to put Himself at the disposal of those who needed Him, and to be manifested according as they could bear it, not vitiating the value of the Divine appearing by exceeding their capacity to receive it.”

Festival Sponsorship Committee - Join Us!
29/5/18, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

I was appointed head of the Sponsorship Team for the festival at the last meeting of the planning committee. I won’t be able to visit too many stores or vendors - that is just the reality of my schedule, but I can help coordinate this important work. The work really is important - our most profitable festivals have had an active sponsorship component. Please consider: could you volunteer to help in your area? Are you good working with people? Do you work in sales? This is one of those things where success only comes before work in the dictionary. We have to knock on X number of doors to get Y number of sponsorships. We have to work to be successful. The earlier we start the better. Please contact me if you can help! This will be fun and this will be a huge help to the festival and our parish!

THANK YOU! Divine Services Every Morning and Every Evening May 21-26
29/5/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Thank you to all who made it possible for us to serve Divine Liturgy and Evening Divine Services this last week! To those who sang, to those who served, to those to read, to those who helped in so many other ways: THANK YOU!!! It is a great blessing for our parish to have had ordinations last Sunday, and part of that blessing is the great opportunity to serve the Divine Services daily the week following the ordinations. This week we came together as a parish family and made this happen. This should show us that if we all work hard and ask the Lord to bless us in our work that He indeed will, and that trusting in God all that is for His glory is possible for us. May God continue to bless and guide us!
