UPDATED! Cross Procession from Rives Junction to St. Vladimir's on Labor Day!
30/6/15, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
The Diocesan Youth Committee intends to hold a Cross Procession from Dormition Monastery in Rives Junction, MI to St. Vladimir's over the Labor Day weekend. To our knowledge this is the ONLY procession of its kind in North America. Save the date to participate now! We will gather at Dormition Monastery on Friday evening, September 4, spend the night there, and begin the procession on Saturday morning, September 5. We will camp overnight about half way between Dormition Monastery and St. Vladimir's, serve Liturgy at the camp ground on Sunday morning September 6 (there will be Liturgy at St. Vladimir's that day too) and then walk the rest of the way to St. Vladimir's. We will then camp overnight at St. Vladimir's, attend Liturgy Monday morning September 7, have one final meal together, and then disperse for home.

We are awaiting final approval of our route from the Jackson County and Washtenaw County Sheriffs' offices. In the mean time, we would like to begin to organize our volunteers. Subdeacon Methodius Chwastek has volunteered to be the lead for this activity and we thank him for his willingness to help! We will need two or three minivans or SUVs to help support the effort. We will also need some medical staff to be with us throughout the procession. We will need some folks to help prepare food for the participants. And more! :) Please contact Methodius if you can help support this effort and please look for our Facebook event soon. This will be posted as soon as we receive final permission for our proposed route – likely early next week. Watch this space for more information!

Quarterly Parish Survey Closes TODAY at Midnight!
30/6/15, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
Beginning with this month we will post a quarterly survey asking our parishioners to provide feedback about our parish. We value your opinion! The survey will be open for the month of June. It will then be open again in September, December, March, and June. The beauty of this survey is that it is fully anonymous! We estimate that the survey should take less than five minutes – please take the survey at the link below today - your opinion matters!

And to sweeten the deal: a $25 Amazon gift card will be randomly awarded to one of those who takes the survey. You must take the survey to be eligible. So please take the survey today!

Festival Meeting Thank You!
29/6/15, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
Yesterday during our monthly building fund dinner we held a parish-wide festival preparation meeting. At this meeting we clarified the reason for our festival (this is a missionary effort to bring those outside the Church to the Church and a great opportunity to build the bonds within our parish family by working together to accomplish something significant for God's glory), and how we can execute the festival in a financially stable way (see links below). This was a great meeting! We received feedback from many and some really great ideas were brought forth. Have ideas? Reach out and share them! Want to volunteer? We know you do – fill out the google doc today!

BIG, BIG Thursday at St. Vladimir's!
29/6/15, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
This week Thursday is a really big day for us at St. Vladimir's!

1. This is our brotherhood feast day and we encourage all the men of our parish to attend the Divine Services (Wednesday 6:00 p.m., Thursday 8:00 a.m.) as their schedule allows. And for those who can – please prepare to partake of Holy Communion on Thursday!

2. Thursday evening we welcome two seminarians from Sretensky Seminary in Moscow. This is a rare treat for us! We meet at 7:00 p.m. at the Poplavsky residence (email info@stvladimiraami.org for the address). We will have a short film about the monastery and seminary with a spiritual discussion to follow. A pot luck reception will take place – please contact our Head Sister, Leta Nikulshina, to let her know what you can bring to the reception. Please join us!

Parish Festival Meeting this Sunday
27/6/15, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
Please join us during the monthly building fund dinner for a brief meeting regarding our annual festival. Why do we hold the festival? How can you help? These are the two main issues we need to refocus on and these are the two topics we will discuss. Plan to join us and plan to be ready to sign up to volunteer! Our shared struggle to introduce new people to Orthodox Christianity through our festival helps strengthen the bonds of our parish family – don't miss this great opportunity!

Forming an Orthodox Conscience
26/6/15, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
Very few of us really want to be children of the world. Almost to a person we say we want to form an Orthodox Conscience - to be truly Churched. Although it is true that the Holy Fathers often say that it is the desire of one's heart that is important - where one wants to be even if one is not there yet - they also say that desire is not enough. One must act. If we want to be truly Churched, if we want to form an Orthodox Conscience - an Orthodox World View, to be truly transormed, then we have to act! It does us little good to bemoan our lack of progress and then jump right back into secular life with both feet. Rather - let us indeed act. A good beginning would be to read this article (which is only about 4 times longer than the note we have posted here). Put these guidelines into action and ask God's help and blessing on your work. You will be amazed at the progress you can make when you struggle sincerely and God, through your entreaties to Him, blesses your intent!

The temptation of the older brother in the parable of the Prodigal Son is a strong one. We need regualr reminders not to fall into this temptation. This is your reminder for today! A good read - and very spiritually helpful. Take the 10 minutes today to help yourself spiritually by reading this article!

Please help us to raise sponsorships for our 2015 parish festival by visiting our festival brochure at the link here:

http://stvladimiraami.org/flyers/2015fe ... ochure.pdf

This may be printed out and passed on to businesses you frequent. Do not UNDERESTIMATE your relationship to these businesses. They know you – and most are happy to help IF THEY ARE ASKED. And this is what we are asking you to do – ask and encourage them to support us.

If you or someone you know would like to support the festival by making an on-line donation you can do that by visiting this link and clicking on the “Sponsorship” in the “Links” box.

Thank you for your help and support!
