Busy Sunday! Here's What's Happening
5/5/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Wait! Didn't we go to the graves last Sunday? Indeed we did! And we planned to visit the graves of our friends and loved ones in our parish cemetery on the Day of Rejoicing. But it rained. Hard. Too hard to make that visit. So we'll do it on Sunday with a full cross procession after the Divine Liturgy!

Then: we'll have our meal, prepared by our St. John Brotherhood. Why? Because this is the Sunday of the Myrrh-Bearing Women and it is our parish tradition for the brothers to cook and clean on this day. You don't want to miss this meal!

Then: we'll have our regularly scheduleD parish council meeting. You can find out MORE ABOUT PARISH COUNCIL HERE.

AND: it is Mother's Day in America too! What better gift could you give your mother than to be in church on this day, praying for her, and bringing her too if that is possible? That is a rhetorical question - there is NO BETTER GIFT!

Please join us as your personal schedule allows!

Bright Barbecue Thank You!
5/5/22, 06:00 AM

What a great turnout we had on Saturday for our Bright Barbecue in support of our parish school! Thank you to all who worked so hard to make this happen: those that planned it, those that executed it, those that volunteered at the evening, those that gave before-during-after the event, and those who participated in day two of the event on Sunday after the Liturgy! We are still working on financials, but we made thousands of dollars to support the building of our parish school! But we still need you! Learn more about how you can help build our school at the following link:

Posted by Fr. Gregory

Please join us on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. and Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. for the annual celebration of the Great Martyr George, one of the most universal saints of the Orthodox Church. That is, he is loved by all from Africa, to Russia, to Japan, to America, etc. There is no Orthodox country or Church that does not robustly celebrate the annual commemoration of St. George! And that includes STV! Join us as your personal schedule allows!

Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
4/5/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

Youth Groups Thank You!
3/5/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We had superb Youth Groups Sunday! Thank you to all who supported the efforts at Forest Hill Cemetery for the greeting of our departed loved ones and parish family members there with the feast of the Resurrection! And especially to those who stayed after the service and walked through the cemetery with the kids telling the stories of those who are there – those that came before us and made it possible for us to even have a parish in Ann Arbor, and all the hard work they did on our behalf. We hope the young people got the message: we work here and now for those who will come after us. We will not see most of the fruit that comes from our God-pleasing labors. But future generations will! And they too will thank us and pray for us for the work we do on behalf of the Church here and now. So let us continue to work, thanking those who came before us, and investing in those that will come after us.

The Young Adult group met at Fr. Gregory’s for a barbecue later in the evening and it was a super turnout with super conversations. Lots of fun, and lots of learning and sharing. The next Youth Group meetings will be on June 26 – please mark your calendars now for that afternoon!

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers

A serpent, when it wants to change its old skin for a new one, passes through a very tight and narrow opening, and in this way, it is easy for it to shed its old skin. So also, when a man wants to shed the old man, he must travel the narrow path of fulfilling the commandments of the Gospel.
