Church Etiquette Series this June
23/5/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We are often asked about this topic. Is it ever OK to talk in Church? How do we greet our friends when we see them in Church? When is it allowed to walk about during the services? Or is it ever? What to do if we see a child or adult clearly violating decorum? Who makes these decisions? We do not have a shared understanding of these and many other questions of etiquette in our parish. That is not something unique to our parish by any means. But this causes temptations for everyone. We cant stop all temptations, but we can work on educating ourselves in this regard and being more clear about expectations. In order to help us come to a shared understanding that will make this part of parish life easier for everyone we will hold a series of lectures and discussions in this regard in June of this year. Please begin to think of issues you would like to discuss and solve when we hold this series. We hope that what will come from this effort are clear guidelines that will allow everyone to be more at peace when worshiping at St. Vladimirs. If you would like to share a thought or a suggestion in this regard please email info@stvladimiraami.org.

Joshua Jobst Named Choir Director at Holy Transfiguration Parish
21/5/19, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Our own Joshua Jobst has been named Choir Director at Holy Transfiguration parish in Livonia! Congratulations to Josh and to our St. Vladimirs choir! Why congratulations to our own choir for losing Josh?! The fact that one of our parish choir members can help another parish like this shows the strength of our choir and our choir program! And anyway Josh will still join us for weekday services on a regular basis, so we will see him and he will continue to sing at St. Vladimirs. We should take this opportunity to thank our Choir Director, Julia Easson, and all our choir for their extraordinarily hard work. It is not easy to sing well at all the services it is a ministry. And we are VERY thankful for our choirs efforts to glorify God on behalf of our parish family!

Congratulations to our Deacon Vladimir Pyrozhenko on being granted tenure by the University of Michigan Regents at their May, 2019 meeting! This is very good news for Fr. Vladimir and his family (and for our parish!), and is indicative of Fr. Vladimirs excellent academic work. May the Lord grant Fr. Vladimir and his family many years of service in His Vineyard!

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers
20/5/19, 06:00 AM

And not many days after, it says, the younger son gather all together, and took his journey into a far country (Luke 15:13). Why did [the Prodigal Son] not set off at once instead of a few days after? The evil prompter, the devil, does not simultaneously suggest to us that we should do what we like and that we should sin. Instead he cunningly beguiles us little by little, whispering, Even if you live independently without going to Gods Church or listening to the Church teacher, you will still be able to see for yourself what your duty is and not depart from what is good. When he separates someone from the divine services and obedience to the holy teachers, he also distances him from Gods vigilance and surrenders him to evil deeds. God is everywhere present. Only one thing is far away from His goodness: evil. Being in the power of evil through sin we set off on a journey far away from God. As David says to God, The evil shall not stand in thy sight (Ps. 5:5).

Emergency Cards Available
16/5/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

The diocese has provided each of our parishes with Emergency Cards. These cards are to be filled out and put in your wallet so that if it were ever to happen that you were in an accident or otherwise needed spiritual support, but could not speak for yourself, the authorities would find the card in your wallet and call Fr. Gregory to come to you. We hope none of our parishioners ever needs to use one of these cards, but it is a good idea to have one just in case. Please see Fr. Gregory if you have questions. Emergency cards can be found near the front doors - near the pamphlets that are available to all for free.

How You Can Help!
13/5/19, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

People often ask us how they can help our parish. On one level that answer is different for everyone. Each of us should use the talents that the Lord has given us for His glory. But specifically we need more catechists: trained parishioners who can help prepare adults for baptism, Godparents for their duties, and couples for marriage. Our diocesan Pastoral School has a Catechist Program that starts each fall. Please consider if you could enter this two-semester program. More catechists will help our parish A LOT. And if this isnt the thing for you that is fine but please do consider how you can use your talents for Gods glory. We will all answer for that when we leave this life. Lets prepare a good answer beginning today!

and that we might receive the teaching concerning the transcendent nature of the Deity which is given to us, as it were, through a glass darkly from the older Scriptures, from the Law, and the Prophets, and the Sapiential Books, as an evidence of the truth fully revealed to us, reverently accepting the meaning of the things which have been spoken, so as to accord in the faith set forth by the Lord of the whole Scripture, which faith we guard as we received it, word for word, in purity, without falsification, judging even a slight divergence from the words delivered to us an extreme blasphemy and impiety.

No Cell Phones in Church Please
11/5/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Please be courteous to your fellow worshipers and be sure to turn off your cell phone when entering the church, or at the very least turn the ringer to the vibrate function. When traveling in Russia Fr. Gregory saw this sign: "Those cell phones that ring in church will be submerged in Holy Water!". We will not go that far, but we hope this helps you remember how important it is to turn off your phone...

Thank you for you attention to this important matter!
