Our Elderly Parish Family and Students Need Rides to Church
18/5/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We do not see our elderly parish family members at church every Sunday. And that is true for some of our students too. The reason for this is: they need rides to church. And they need a little prompting sometimes in this regard since they don't want to be a bother. It is a privilege to serve our our elderly parish family members and students in this way and we need to be quite zealous about it. If you can help organize or participate in this ministry please contact Fr. Gregory. There are not a lot of folks that need rides, but they need to be contacted early in the week to arrange the Sunday ride, assured that they are not bothering anyone, and they need to be picked up in a timely manner on Sunday morning. One person doesn't have to do all this, and frankly speaking, based on where our elderly and students live, it would be impossible for one person to do it all. We need several people to help. Please contact Fr. Gregory to take part in this very honorable activity an activity worth waking up early on Sunday morning to participate in.

Invite those in Need to Lunch Every Sunday
17/5/19, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We invite our parish family to invite friends and loved ones who are in need to our parish meal each Sunday at 1200. As a parish we have a responsibility and a desire to follow the Matthew 25 commandments of our Lord. This is a one small way in which we can do this. Spread the word! We are happy to have others join us for lunch!

Emergency Cards Available
16/5/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

The diocese has provided each of our parishes with Emergency Cards. These cards are to be filled out and put in your wallet so that if it were ever to happen that you were in an accident or otherwise needed spiritual support, but could not speak for yourself, the authorities would find the card in your wallet and call Fr. Gregory to come to you. We hope none of our parishioners ever needs to use one of these cards, but it is a good idea to have one just in case. Please see Fr. Gregory if you have questions. Emergency cards can be found near the front doors - near the pamphlets that are available to all for free.

Weekly Financial Update
15/5/19, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him... (I Corinthians 16:2)

We present here our weekly collection information, links to our Donation Page, and our Treasurers Corner page.

Two Important pieces of information to remember as you review this data:

1. Income is captured ONLY from regular collections and the Network for Good General Fund/Tithes page. There are other income sources for the parish that are not captured here. We feel it is important to cover our baseline expenses (based on 2018 actual expenses) from regular collections and the General Fund/Tithes income, but we do not do that regularly (thus you will see a lot of red numbers at the weekly collection variance link). Please consider establishing a recurring donation at our General Fund/Tithes page or via bank transfer (contact our Treasurer, Mikhail Fisenkov at treasurer@stvladimiraami.org to learn more about bank transfers) to help us erase those red numbers.

2. Assure that your weekly tithe is provided to your parish even when you are not present by establishing a recurring donation at our General Fund/Tithes page or via bank transfer (contact our Treasurer, Mikhail Fisenkov at treasurer@stvladimiraami.org to learn more about bank transfers).

You Are a Missionary
14/5/19, 06:00 AM

The Lord has entrusted us with the Pearl of Great Price the Orthodox Faith. Are we hiding this? Are we keeping it for ourselves? Or are we following the example of the Apostles and working actively to spread our saving faith? If you had the cure for a bodily disease like cancer you would never keep that to yourself it is obvious that this would be unethical and sinful. But we have the cure for DEATH! And sadly we mostly keep it to ourselves. And that is even more unethical and sinful that hiding the cure for any bodily disease. Share your faith. Invite a friend, loved one, or neighbor to the All English Cycle of Services this coming Friday and Saturday and assure them that you will be there to welcome them to St. Vladimirs. If we would all do this if we would make just a minimal effort to invite others we would need to seriously rethink the size of the new church we plan to build because it would be way TOO SMALL. Lets do that. Lets make all our plans useless because there are just too many people in our parish family! Success only comes before work in the dictionary let us get to work spreading our Orthodox Faith by simply inviting others to join us at St. Vladimirs!

How You Can Help!
13/5/19, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

People often ask us how they can help our parish. On one level that answer is different for everyone. Each of us should use the talents that the Lord has given us for His glory. But specifically we need more catechists: trained parishioners who can help prepare adults for baptism, Godparents for their duties, and couples for marriage. Our diocesan Pastoral School has a Catechist Program that starts each fall. Please consider if you could enter this two-semester program. More catechists will help our parish A LOT. And if this isnt the thing for you that is fine but please do consider how you can use your talents for Gods glory. We will all answer for that when we leave this life. Lets prepare a good answer beginning today!

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers

and that we might receive the teaching concerning the transcendent nature of the Deity which is given to us, as it were, through a glass darkly from the older Scriptures, from the Law, and the Prophets, and the Sapiential Books, as an evidence of the truth fully revealed to us, reverently accepting the meaning of the things which have been spoken, so as to accord in the faith set forth by the Lord of the whole Scripture, which faith we guard as we received it, word for word, in purity, without falsification, judging even a slight divergence from the words delivered to us an extreme blasphemy and impiety.

No Cell Phones in Church Please
11/5/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Please be courteous to your fellow worshipers and be sure to turn off your cell phone when entering the church, or at the very least turn the ringer to the vibrate function. When traveling in Russia Fr. Gregory saw this sign: "Those cell phones that ring in church will be submerged in Holy Water!". We will not go that far, but we hope this helps you remember how important it is to turn off your phone...

Thank you for you attention to this important matter!

Repose of Connie (Elena) Meyer
10/5/19, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

On May 9 at about 9:00 p.m. Moscow Time the handmaiden of God Connie (Elena) Meyer passed into the next life. Connie was our tireless partner in Moscow in our Russia with Love effort, having come to Moscow as the Soviet Union collapsed and staying for the rest of her life, working closely with the Russian Orthodox Church, especially our friend Fr. Sergey Kiselev. During this time she accepted Orthodox Christianity with the name Elena, and true to her names sake, worked tirelessly for the good of the people of God, helping all those in need who came to her, no matter the resources she had on hand (often next to nothing). Connie helped the poorest and most suffering in Moscow - especially during the 1990s when society was in a state of upheaval. Connie came to visit us here in Ann Arbor on several occasions. Here is a photo album of her visit in 2009:

Please remember Elena in your prayers during these days. Her 40th day is June 17. May the Lord grant her His Kingdom!
