Preparing the Parish Church for Pentecost
23/5/18, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

The great feast of Pentecost is May 27. Please join us on Saturday, May 26 for a Memorial Divine Liturgy beginning at 9:00 a.m. Following the Liturgy we will decorate the parish church with boughs, branches, and flowers for the Pentecost vigil. This is a similar activity to our Lazarus Saturday church decoration in preparation for the Palm Sunday vigil. Many good memories are waiting to be had at these sorts of events. Please bring your children! It is especially important for them to participate in these sorts of activities. All are welcome!

Archbishop Peter Thank You!

Posted by Fr. Gregory

Thank you to all who made the visit of Archbishop Peter to our parish this weekend such a success! His Eminence joined us for Vigil on Saturday evening and Liturgy on Sunday morning. At the Liturgy on Sunday morning Mark Chaffee and Colin Bower were tonsured Readers for serve in our St. Vladimir Parish. Subdeacon Dmitry Kashchenko was ordained a Deacon to serve in our parish and Deacon Thomas Sprunger was ordained a priest to serve at the parish in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This was the first ordination of a priest in the history of our St. Vladimir’s parish! So many people worked hard to make Vladyka’s visit so fruitful and we thank you all: those who sang, those who served, those who cooked, and everyone else who worked quietly behind the scenes for the glory of God! This was a real triumph for our parish – thank you all! Many pictures are already up on our Facebook page. Eventually all will be posted on our photo album as well.

“Devils take great delight in fullness, and drunkenness and bodily comfort. Fasting possesses great power and it works glorious things. To fast is to banquet with angels.”

Deacon Ordination this Sunday - Instructions for Parishioners
17/5/18, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

God willing, Subdeacon Dmitry Kashchenko will be ordained a deacon on Sunday May 20 for service at our St. Vladimir parish. Ordination is the sacrament of the Holy Church that we least often participate in, but it is important that we all participate in this ordination appropriately. We ask all our parishioners to review the ordination instructions here and to address questions to Fr. Gregory or Fr. Moses. Please remember - the Divine Liturgy begins at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 20.

Monday First Things: Teachings of the Holy Fathers

“It is a fact, brothers and sisters, that the path of the saints in this life is one full of troubles. They either endure the pain of longing for that which is to come, like the one who said, ‘Woe is me that I have such a long pilgrimage’ (Ps. 120:5, LXX) or they are distressed by their longing for the salvation of others, as Paul wrote to the Corinthians, ‘I am afraid that whey I come to you, God may humble me and cause me to weep and mourn over many who have sinned and not repented of impurity, fornication and licentiousness which they have practiced.'”

“No matter what bitterness has befallen you, no matter what unpleasantness has happened to you, say, “I shall endure this for Jesus Christ!” and it will be easier for you. For the name of Jesus Christ is powerful. Through it all unpleasantness is calmed, and demons disappear. Your disappointments will also be calmed and you pusillanimity will be quieted.”
