“The sick one who is acquainted with his sickness is easily to be cured; and he who confesses is pain is near to health. Many are the pains of the hard heart; and when the sick one resists the physician, his torments will be augmented.”

Working at the Church During the Pandemic

Posted by Fr. Gregory

As the weather warms up we are going to start our spring work at St. Vladimir’s. There is lots to do! We need your help! And we all need to help for our sanity - work helps! More information to come soon, but our Starosta, Jack Mitchell, and our Head Brother, Konstantin Poplavsky, are working on plans now. For sure we need to finish the sidewalk expansion behind the church. We need to start cutting and trimming grass. And much more! All activities will be executed following all sanitary and social distancing rules.

Picking up Artos at St. Vladimir’s this Sunday
24/4/20, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

The Artos is the special bread that is blessed on the Paschal Night and is present at all the Divine Services of Bright week. Even without a pandemic we usually can’t be at all the services, but the Artos is a blessing from this special week that can take home and consume with other believers, especially those who are unable to come to the church, which is most of us this year.

You may come to St. Vladimir’s to pick up your piece of Artos from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. this coming Sunday (April 26), which is the day we say the final prayer over the Artos and then cut it and distribute it. The process will be the same as it was for Palm Sunday to pick up palms and for Holy Saturday and Pascha for the blessing of Pascha Baskets, namely:

A. Drive into the new driveway and go all the way to the end. Turn left into the large paved parking lot. Turn left again to drive down the old driveway. Stop at the entrance to the church. DO NOT GET OUT OF YOUR CAR UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Roll down the driver’s side window. The priest will give you a piece of Artos in a plastic bag. You will be given the opportunity to make a donation to St. Vladimir’s. Please note that volunteers will not be able to make change. See more information about material support of the parish during the pandemic here. Holy Week and Bright Week provide a significant portion of our yearly income. We thank you kindly for remembering the parish at this time, and remind you that there is a match on your donations – $1 for every dollar you give until the last day of Pascha (14/27 May, 2020).

B. We strongly suggest that those in cars be masked. All St. Vladimir’s volunteers will be masked as well. You should wash or sanitize your hands after this interaction. St. Vladimir’s volunteers will sanitize their hands between all interactions and wash their hands regularly during the time of their volunteer work.

C. Your interaction with the volunteers should be brief. If you have concerns or questions about anything please reach out to Fr. Gregory for a longer conversation.

“Recollect the fall of the strong, that thou mayest remain humble under thy virtues. And think of the heavy sins of those who fell and repented; and of the praise and honour they received afterwards, so that thou mayest acquire courage during repentance.”

Acts of the Apostles 2020

We couldn't gather in the church to read the Acts before the Tomb of the Lord in many languages (to show that Christianity is the faith for ALL) this year - so we did it at home and recorded our reading! We usually start reading at 9:00 p.m. so we are posting now. Thank you to all who made this effort possible! Christ is Risen!

Bread for Good
14/4/20, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

I have been baking bread for years now. I bake prosphora for the parish and it is common to find my bread served at trapeza or at other parish functions. We currently find ourselves separated from the services, but we cannot leave our Church unsupported monetarily as our clergy work for the benefit of us all. In order to assist the parish during this pandemic I will be selling bread and giving all of the profits to the church to put in the general parish fund. Lord willing this will settle down soon, and when things return to normalcy I will then donate the profits to the building fund. Perhaps someday we can say that bread builds buildings! I will be offering 1.6lb white and whole wheat sourdough loaves for $7 each on an order basis. I can take either cash or check. Stay healthy, and let me help you eat well!
