Weekly Educational Offering
29/4/15, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

For Adults: the explanation of last Sunday's Gospel reading by Blessed Theophylact:

Myrrh-Bearing Women Thank You!
27/4/15, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
Thank you to all who made our commemoration of the Myrrh-Bearing Women this weekend so wonderful! Huge thanks to our St. John Brotherhood who covered all the meal responsibilities (the lunch was GREAT!) and to Gracie Willis and Danica Taylor, Student Attorneys from the University of Michigan Law School Human Trafficking Clinic, who provided us a very interesting and important presentation on Human Trafficking in Michigan during the meal. Those who are interested in learning more about this modern-day slavery and how we might do something about it are urged to contact Fr. Gregory. Look for the lecture on our You Tube Channel and Sound of the Parish later today!

Welcoming Others to Church – Everyone's Responsibility!
24/4/15, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
As is the case every week, we will have visitor at St. Vladimir's this weekend. They will be getting their first impression of our parish family. YOU CAN ONLY MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION ONCE. That is why it is so important, and the responsibility of each and every one of us, to warmly welcome visitors to our parish. Is the visitor not acting “appropriately”? Assure them that all will be fine and lovingly help. Is the visitor’s child fussy? Assure them that we welcome children in the church and not to worry. If they ask for a place to go to quiet the child please point out the nursery – do not push them out the door. Does the visitor have questions? Answer them if possible, and if not, refer them to someone who can. A smile and a welcoming word can make the difference in someone’s spiritual life both in this life and the next. Please show love one to another so that people will know that we are Christ’s disciples! We want to be known for our warm hospitality as was Abraham – but we all must work together to make our parish as welcoming as we possibly can!

We will discuss Human Trafficking in Michigan, a reworking of our Teen Group to allow the young people to much more actively live their faith, have a general discussion about any and all subjects the teens would like to discuss, and finally play some board games. It goes without saying that there will be non-Lenten treats on offer. Please join us!

Human Trafficking in Michigan - Presentation this Sunday
23/4/15, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
Yes – it happens. A lot more than you think. And these are not just people indentured from other countries (as if that would make it OK) – these are people from the United States. People like you and your family! Join us this Sunday (April 26) during our weekly parish meal after the Divine Liturgy when we welcome Gracie Willis and Danica Taylor, Student Attorneys from the University of Michigan Law School Human Trafficking Clinic. It will be good to find out about this problem from experts like Gracie and Danica. But we are not going to stop there. With Gracie and Danica's guidance we are also going to seek ways that we can help. This is a huge societal problem that no one seems to want to talk about. As Christians it is our responsibility to minister to others, especially those who are oppressed. We need to talk about this and we need to find ways to make a positive difference. Please join us this Sunday for this important presentation!
