Palm Sunday Special Instructions – Please Help!
31/3/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

This Sunday we celebrate the triumphant Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem, known more popularly as Palm Sunday. The Liturgy for this feast is traditionally one of our largest of the year. We need your help to make things go as smoothly as possible!

1. We will commune from two chalices at least. If we have three priests we will have three chalices. Please help by stepping into the Communion line that has the fewest people in it. The exact same Communion is in each chalice – no matter which priest is communing you.

2. Please move to the front of the parish church. Yes – you. Everyone that reads this. And please tell all your friends that don’t read this or deny reading this. :) Leave the back of the church for guests. They will be more comfortable there and we will thereby utilize our very limited space to the greatest extent possible.

3. Please do not park in the guest parking spots. Yes – you. Those spots are for guests. A guest a new person who is visiting for their first or second or third time. If you are reading this you are probably not a guest. We have let this go for some months. But it is time to get serious about this. OR – feel free to park in the guest spots if you want to help us build the new church faster by making a very large gift to the building fund. That would be OK too – but please talk to Fr. Gregory about that ahead of time so we don’t have to try to fine you after the fact. :) Please spread the word about this – we need to be mature about this and be willing to walk a few more steps to church so a real guest has a nice place to park and is welcomed from the first possible moment they visit our parish.

Alms giving is a strong tradition of the Holy Church during lenten periods. As we spend less on our food at these times of year we take that extra and give it to those less fortunate. At St. Vladimir's we will collect alms according to the following schedule this Great Lent.

Sunday, February 25: Parish Fund for those in Need of Assistance

Sunday, March 4: Parish Fund for those in Need of Assistance

Sunday, March 11: International Orthodox Christians Charities

Reading Acts of the Apostles Holy Saturday
29/3/18, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We are seeking readers to read the Acts of the Apostles in as many languages as possible again this year. Since this tradition has grown in popularity in recent years this year we will again begin the reading of the Acts of the Apostles at 9:00 p.m. on Holy Saturday, April 7. This reading sends a very important and stark message: Christianity is the faith for ALL peoples. Thus, we try to read the Acts before the tomb of Christ in as many languages as we can. Last year we read in 19 languages. Let's break that record this year! Contact our Head Reader, Ken Doll, to sign up for your slot to read in the language of your choice – see him in church or email info@stvladimiraami.org.

Correction of Parish Calendar
29/3/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Please note that there was a vigil erroneously scheduled for this evening, March 29, on the originally published March calendar. That has been removed. There is no vigil tonight. Please make a note of this and share with those whom you know or suspect were planning to attend the Divine Services tonight.

Confess Early – but not Often – for Pascha
28/3/18, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Those who confess beginning on Friday, March 30 and any time during Holy Week may partake of Divine Communion during any of the Holy Week & Bright Week Divine Liturgies if they have read their pre-Communion rule. Please plan to come to Confession early in the week so that your Confession will not be rushed due to long lines of others waiting for Confession. ONCE YOU HAVE CONFESSED YOU SHOULD NOT CONFESS AGAIN UNLESS YOU FALL INTO A VERY SERIOUS SIN. There are MANY who need to confess this week - literally hundreds. Please be merciful to your priests and only confess one time unless there is a very serious need to confess a second time.

Weekly Educational Offering
28/3/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

For Adults: an explanation of this coming Sunday's Gospel reading from Blessed Theophylact:

LAST Presanctified Liturgy + Meal is this Wednesday Evening
27/3/18, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

This year, with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Peter, we will celebrate the beautiful Divine Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts throughout Great Lent on Wednesday evenings. Matins begins at 3:00 p.m. Liturgy will begin at approximately 6:30 p.m. Following each of these services our St. Xenia Sisterhood will organize a light Lenten dinner. Please contact our Head Sister, Ksenia Nikulshina (headsister@stvladimiraami.org or see her in church) if you would like to help with the dinner. We have excellent Lenten recipes to share if you’d like to try something new! Please join us for these remarkably beautiful and meaningful Lenten evening services and for mid-week fellowship with your parish family at the meal afterwards!

Wednesday, February 28
Wednesday, March 14
Thursday, March 22 – NOTE THIS IS A THURSDAY
Wednesday, March 28

The Liturgical Fast for those communing begins after breakfast for the 6:30 p.m. services. In other words, you may eat breakfast, but eat or drink nothing further after that. Parents should use their best judgment regarding their children, as always. Those who confessed on the weekend prior to the Wednesday Presanctified need not confess again on/before Wednesday.

PLEASE NOTE! There are other Presanctified Liturgies throughout Great Lent that begin with Matins at 8:00 a.m. and Liturgy about 11:30 a.m. - mostly on Fridays. Please consult the schedule of services on our web site for more details.

Icon “Softener of Evil Hearts” Thank You!
26/3/18, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Thank you to all who made it possible for our parish family to host the Icon of the Theotokos “Softener of Evil Hearts”! There was a steady stream of worshipers throughout the night. More than 40 people partook of Holy Communion at the Presanctified Liturgy and overall hundreds of people had the opportunity to venerate the icon in the short time we were blessed to have it with us. The icon's chaperon, Sergey Fomin, gave a nice talk about the icon. This is available on our Facebook page now. And there will be a few pictures there soon too. Please post your pictures and videos on our page as soon as you can. Or send to info@stvladimiraami.org. So many people worked so hard to make this a wonderful experience for our parish family! We thank you all! May the Lord reward you in this life and the next for your service to His Church!

We are ordering a hand-painted copy of the icon. If you would like to help with that please contact Fr. Gregory, Svetlana Mitchell, or email info@stvladimiraami.org.
